Where will I live?

American homestays

Homestays are a great way to learn about American family culture. Each family is carefully screened and selected. Families vary; some families are single parents with children and some are older couples without children.

  • Students receive breakfast and dinner daily and have their own bedrooms.

  • Transportation to school and home must be arranged.

  • Some students take the bus, ride bicycles or ride with host family members, if possible.

To learn more about the variety of homestay options available, it is recommended that you visit the websites of the following four companies and contact them directly.

Applications for homestays should be submitted to the company a minimum of two months prior to your session start date.

To find off-campus housing closest to campus, enter postal code 85281 into each website if your program is on ASU’s Tempe campus.

Also, it is very important to understand what is written in a contract before you sign it. In the U.S., signed contracts are legally binding. Any person or company that does not follow the terms of a contract they have signed can be punished by law. Punishments can include fines, jail, or loss of student status. If you have questions about the terms of a contract, make sure to get the questions answered before you sign.
